Industry News: Airfreight Rates Remain High Despite Seasonal Dip

Airfreight spot rates remain significantly higher than last year, despite a slight seasonal dip following the holiday peak. WorldACD reports global rates at $2.76 per kg as of mid-January, driven by strong pricing in Asia Pacific and the Middle East/South Asia (MESA). While spot prices fell 3% week-on-week, they remain 22% higher year-over-year. Asia Pacific-to-US routes saw fluctuating demand but maintained firm rates, with spot prices up 37% compared to last year.

The Asia Pacific-to-Europe market also experienced sharp year-end declines, with January rates rebounding to $4.59 per kg, 42% higher year-over-year. In the MESA region, spot rates have softened since November but are still 65% above last year’s levels, as geopolitical tensions sustain elevated pricing. Analysts suggest rates and demand in these regions will remain high until regional stability improves.

The resilience in airfreight rates reflects ongoing supply chain challenges and geopolitical uncertainties, underlining the industry's capacity to adapt while maintaining elevated price points.
